FOREWORD About My Book: CAREER CHOICE MADE EASY

By S. Ademola Ajayi, Ph.D

One of the greatest needs of students in their formative years in life is that of making the right choices of career. At that critical cross-road in life, they require effective guidance. I have meticulously read through the manuscript on Career Choice Made Easy for Secondary School Students. I am delighted to write a foreword to this lucid compendium. The book is full of invaluable information, which leaves nothing that is significant for a thorough and practical guide for students in their formative years of life; more so, at the verge of taking critical steps in career choices.

This is a book that is well conceived and quite timely too. It is a resource material of fine, deep and even-handed presentation, worthy of its place not only on the shelf but as a handbook for all students in post-primary institutions. It is a captivating book, which guides students significantly in their understanding of career choices. It addresses several fundamental issues such as what the concept of career is all about; levels of career choice; the challenges associated with career choice in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general; as well as some indicators of successful career choice, among others. The book is well-researched, produced to a very high standard, enhanced by relevant illustration, and presented in a lively manner. We obviously need more books like this from “field officers” working directly with the young ones who are our future leaders, and who therefore need more effective guidance, counseling and mentoring. Pastor Allen Olatunde, who is currently a school Chaplain, is to be commended for his ability to assemble such a wide spectrum of materials, and corroborating same with his practical experience on the field, for the target readers. I find this a clear and authoritative write-up that combines factual, narrative and descriptive approaches, and gives information on a wide variety of subjects on career guidance for students. The book is not only very educative on the theme of discourse; it is also consistently interesting and fascinating to read. It is certainly an illuminating and engaging primer to career choices and pursuits. I congratulate the author for the meticulous effort in gathering materials that has produced this publication and for his lucid and easy-to-comprehend style of presentation.

It is because this book provides invaluable information on a vital aspect of the needs of youths of today who are leaders of tomorrow that I hope it will gain the widest possible circulation. It therefore gives me great pleasure to commend the book to all students, guidance counselors, teachers and parents, as well as the general reading public. It is a mine of information. Bon appetit!
